Stuck on an Escalator

As I was working with some schools this week on blended learning initiatives, one of the school leaders shared the following video with us:

On first viewing I laughed. Then I almost cried. How many of our students are unprepared to face even the most simple challenges of the real world because adults (teachers, parents, other well well-meaning folks in their lives) have stepped in to prevent the student from experiencing any failure. As a result, the student may be paralyzed by even the most basic disruption in their lives.

What do we need to do better to help our students avoid being stuck on an escalator?
