Student Portfolio Work -- Comments Welcome and Appreciated

Shared below are links to student portfolios for Lights Academy students. This shares examples of how students in our accelerated, personalized learning experience are organizing their work. As this is the first year of the academy, I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on the contents and process of the portfolios. Answers to questions like this would be helpful as I analyze what we have done and where we are going:
  • Is the format of the portfolios appropriate and helpful? Why or why not?
  • Is the content of the portfolios appropriate and helpful? Why or why not?
  • Do these portfolios do a good job of "showing off" the interests and aptitudes of Academy students in a good way? Why or why not?
  • What suggestions to you have for improvement?
Here are links to some specific student portfolios:
Please help me and my students learn and grow with our program. We would welcome your assistance by analyzing our approach to portfolio work. Thank you in advance for your support.

P.S. I have heard that some people have had difficulty adding comments to this blog. If you have difficulty, feel free to share comments to me via email by clicking here.

Thanks for sharing, Dave! I am impressed by these portfolios, and was excited to see that each student took a slightly different approach to the various components. I was particularly struck by the difference in approach to the biographies - can tell a lot about a student in that way. One piece I wondered about was whether (and perhaps I missed this) a deeper reflection on each project completed could have been included, particularly as a way to showcase what the students feel they gained from each of the distinct projects. Thanks for sharing!

  2. Great thoughts Jessica! I am going to compile all the ideas shared with the students and see what they think has the most value. I appreciate you taking the time to review student work.
