What Do You Want Kids to Do With Technology?

The graphic below has made its way around various educational technology sites and blogs. What do you think of the content? Agree? Disagree? And if you agree, how can we make this more the norm in Lutheran schools? What specific steps can we take? Let's get the coffee house conversation going!

    Dave,

    I would agree with most everything on the "wrong"side, except for "make an app." I think there is a tremendous amount of value in learning how to create an app. The longer I think about it, the more I begin to agree with guys like Doug Rushkoff, I do think that learning how to program is an important literacy for kids today. Algorithmic thinking and logical thinking, within the context of programming is the appropriate end for the "make an app" means.

    If nothing else the programming process helps one understanding how technology works -- that it is something accessible and that humans are in control of the process. Also, the logical thinking and problem solving associated with programming and apps creation provides a good foundation for thinking skills.
