The Value of Guest Speakers

In Lights Academy at Lutheran High School we make it a point to invite speakers from all walks of life to share their stories with our students. Last week we welcomed one of our school parents to speak with the class. This parent also heads up a local non-profit organization in our community.

Each time we have someone speak the students create a reflection piece on the talk for their online portfolio. This is what one student wrote about what made an impact upon them from this talk:

One of the things that stuck with me most from Mr. B's talk was that "Christ can be shown even if you aren't allowed." We can be a light to others who need it even in our world today where this is looked down upon. By serving others and having their best interests in mind, they are being shown Christ. Even if this means telling them they need to make lifestyle changes, as Mr. B has to tell families, it is worth it in the end. He also mentioned that "doing the right thing is always right." Notice how he never said that doing the right thing was always easy and everyone will agree. No, doing the right thing is always right. It may be difficult but it is right. This is something I can carry out for all aspects of life.

WOW! That is an excellent example of what I want Lights Academy students to see through this year. I thank God for faithful leaders and students who are open to their leading.
